Welcome Back

Life has been crazy.  Blogging, life as a woman in tech, my life in general has taken a back seat for the past four years as I worked on growing and raising two tiny humans.  That #momlife is a full time job on top of a full time job.

My son Myles, now 4, was born 29 weeks premature at 2.5lbs after a complicated pregnancy.  I’d say it took me at least 3 years to fully process and move through that experience.  Even now, if I think too much about all the anxiety returns.

My daughter Ada is now 2.5 and named after Ada Lovelace.  Ada Lovelace is often considered the first computer scientist.  As was drilled into my head in my all girls high school, she conceived of the difference engine.

Here’s my crazy crew living our best life at the pumpkin patch this year.

Professionally, over the past four years I spent two years managing a software development team; basically working as director but without the title because I worked irregular hours to focus on my family.  I changed jobs and companies a year ago to a software developer role which is a much better fit for me right now.

However, I was still the only woman software developer on my team, the same as when I started 12 years earlier.  My activism reawakened.  My time and emotional energy has become slightly more available as my two tiny humans grow.

I want this blog to be a safe place to share experiences and knowledge.  I want other women to know that they are not alone.  It is hard being the only woman at the table sometimes, but gosh darn it sit at that table ~ like a girl.
